Director of the Immigration, Refugee, and Migrants Program at Catholic Charities of South Jersey, Jose Sanchez, recently received his Certification in Nonprofit Executive Management from the University of San Diego and Catholic Charities USA. The program draws on the University of San Diego’s accredited Nonprofit Management curriculum with additional elements customized to support strategic priorities and service areas specific to the Catholic Charities ministry.
Jose said of his experience, “The course allowed me to take a closer look at the mission and vision of our organization and what we are called to do, to serve the most vulnerable. In the time I spent on the work, I am amazed at what Catholic Charities does with so few resources. Our call to serve others shines in every center of Catholic Charities and within the people we serve.”
Featured with Jose are Bob Beatty, Ph.D., Laura Deitrick, Ph.D., and Kathleen Rapp, MPA. All three were facilitators of the program with Beatty teaching a financial leadership course and Deitrick and Rapp co-teaching a course on leading and managing contemporary nonprofit organizations.
The program’s tuition is 100% funded by a generous gift from the Healey Family Foundation to develop further the management and leadership skills of Catholic Charities leaders. Each Catholic Charities agency can designate one diocesan director or one senior-level executive per year to participate in the program. The curriculum includes up to 180 hours of learning with four modules, each requiring up to 45 hours to complete, with topics including:
- Board Governance
- Strategy Development
- Measuring Impact
- Crisis Management
- Coaching and Developing Talent
- Financial Reporting and Accountability
- Financing Strategies for Affordable Housing
- Cultivating Donors, Major Gifts, and Capital Campaigns
- Launching Social Enterprises
