Mission of the Family and Community Centers — The Family and Community Centers make Catholic Charities’ programs available on a local level to residents of each of the six southern New Jersey counties served by the Diocese of Camden. Each center strives to meet the unique needs of the county it serves while acting as a bridge within its community to the broader programs offered by the agency.
The centers serve local needs through services such as food pantries, toiletries, and temporary monetary assistance to eligible clients. The staff at each center are also able to connect clients to the more specialized services offered by Catholic Charities, such as state-funded housing stabilization programs; case management; services for veterans, immigrants and refugees; and addictions healing services.
Each center builds its own bridges into the community, forming unique relationships with Catholic parishes, other faith communities and local groups and non-profits and social services agencies – that help them better serve the needs of their clients. They provide community service opportunities to their neighbors, who serve as volunteers and support the center through donations drives.
The Family and Community Centers embody the Catholic principle of subsidiarity, or the idea that local, on-the-ground institutions are in the best possible position to understand the needs of those they serve.
