Catholic Charities Annual Dinner 2026
Honoring Bishop Joseph L. Coffey

Collaborating for the Community in Atlantic City

A community outreach event hosted by Catholic Charities of South Jersey was an incredible display of collaboration between local organizations. In partnership with Church by the Bay and the New Jersey State Police, the event aimed to provide basic goods and social service resources to people in need.

The joint efforts of these organizations, along with the dedicated volunteers from St. Augustine Prep and La Salle College High School, ensured that the event was a resounding success, with thousands of items finding their way into the homes of local families in need.

The outreach event was a beacon of hope for dozens of families in Atlantic City. Attendees eagerly filled bags with essential items. Many were surprised that the items came at no cost to them. Yes, this outreach event was completely free for all attendees.

Church by the Bay made the event possible by providing thousands of donated goods, including an array of baby items, clothes, and home goods. These donations catered to the needs within the community, from hand-knitted baby items that brought joy and reassurance to an expectant mother, to unique home goods that sparked excitement in individuals seeking comfort and personal expression.

Reverend Lou Strugala, Pastor of Church by the Bay and Chaplain for New Jersey State Police, explained how the New Jersey State Police’s presence at the outreach event aimed to foster community engagement and a sense of security. To strengthen the bond between the local community and law enforcement, strategic partnerships for outreach events such as this promote positive interactions and build back trust.

The presence of the New Jersey State Police demonstrated a commitment to ensuring the event was a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees.

Catholic Charities not only provided donated items as well but also offered the use of their parking lot for the event. By welcoming the community into their space in the heart of Atlantic City, Catholic Charities ensured that the outreach event had a safe and central location that was easily accessible to those in the community.

This event offered a glimmer of hope and support to the community by providing basic goods, connecting individuals with vital resources, and fostering a sense of community,

In addition to material support, the event also connected attendees with vital social service resources. Information about programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) was readily available, ensuring that families were aware of the support systems available to assist them beyond the event itself.

By equipping individuals with knowledge about these resources, the outreach event had a lasting impact on the lives of attendees, empowering them to seek further assistance and improve their overall well-being.

The collaborative efforts of Catholic Charities of South Jersey, Church by the Bay, and the New Jersey State Police demonstrated the power of community engagement and compassion.
